ArchiVision is a practice that works in section

Founded in 2008 by Alkmini Pavlou and Ektoras Sgouros, who met as junior architects in Vorarlberg and came back to Athens with one conviction: that Greek architecture had spent two decades on visual style and too little on the questions that hold a building up — structure, orientation, daylight, and weight.

We are eleven people on the third floor of a building on Heyden Street, Exarcheia. One house in construction in Kifisia, two villas under design in the Cyclades, an office building completing in Kalamata, and a hotel renovation on Hydra finishing in autumn.

Every project starts on paper and ends in a model

A single-line orientation diagram and a one-page programme come first. Renders are made only in the last ten per cent of the design phase, and only for clients who ask for them.

We build physical models on every project — chipboard at 1:200, balsa at 1:50. We have kept every one of them. There are 134, and they live on a wall of open-front shelves in the main room.

We have said no three times since 2014

Two private villas where the renovation would have removed listed cypress trees, and one hospitality project on a coastal site we judged ecologically unsound. We would rather lose the commission than build the argument.

We are quietly proud of the Domes cover for Pelion House — and prouder that Manolis Sevastopoulos, the contractor on that house, has now built three of our projects.
