A 92 m² roof on twelve slender posts, built in nine weeks between two seasons. Everything is bolted, nothing is welded, and the whole pavilion can be taken down in four days — which was the condition of the permit.
The posts are set out on a 3.4 m grid that ignores the shoreline and follows the prevailing wind instead. In August that is the only orientation that matters.
It has been taken down and put back six times. Two posts have been replaced; everything else is original.
We were asked to design a building. We designed a roof, and the client agreed after one meeting.
